About the Author and His Dog

I am new to blogging, but I have decided to give it a try.  This blog will chronicle the various things I do that can be considered adventures and will most likely be related to outdoors activities.   This blog will cover possible topics from hiking, camping, mountain biking, a little bit of kayaking, possibly road cycling, and other topics as they are presented.  If you didn't already know you can find the blog here.

About Jarrett

To get things started, I am married, but my wife doesn't enjoy the outdoors like I do and would prefer to leave the adventures to me.  I am hoping to change her mind about being outside.  My current partner in crime for these adventures is my dog BeeGee, which is how the address was chosen.  She frequently goes hiking and biking on shorter rides with me.  I recently moved to very South Texas, the Rio Grande Valley, from central North Carolina ( don't worry folks I'm a native Texan).  I am looking forward to continuing my outdoor adventures in Texas. The biggest difference being that North Carolina was full of mountain biking and hiking locations , The Appalachian Trail being the big one.  Unfortunately, The Rio Grande Valley has very limited hiking and mountain biking opportunities.  This saddens me because those are two of my favorite activities; however, it appears new possibilities are being presented in the form of fishing and bay kayaking.

 

About BeeGee

I figure BeeGee deserves her own specific introduction as she will be my accomplice in most, if not all my adventures.  She is almost 5 years old and I have had her for a little over a year, I got her from a shelter.  She is a mix of something, lab/terrier or possibly lab/schnauzer.  We have taken a few agility classes so she can do some nifty tricks, like jump through tires, and is mostly behaved.  She loves running and carries her own backpack on most outings.  She is energetic and sweet but will unfortunately give chase  to woodland creatures if given too much of a free reign.

Tubing Down the San Marcos River

Tubing Down the San Marcos River Linda here for Adventures with BeeGee. We’ve been adventuring more aggressively since Salkantay. My goal this August is to continue the adventuring while catching up on blog entries to ensure we preserve these great memories. On Saturday, July 20th, Jarrett, a friend of ours, and I went tubing down the San Marcos River. I realized I had been living in Austin for almost four years now and had not done this iconic Hill Country tourist activity. To be honest, we probably had not done it before because I only learned how to swim last year and am not the most comfortable with water. The San Marcos River is relatively shallow and the heat in Texas is unbearable, so if you want to enjoy the outdoors but are uncomfortable with water, this is a great option. Trip Report: Sherwood Forest Faire

First Time at Sherwood Forest I have recently been introduced to the fun world of renaissance festivals, so Jack and I took a trip to the Ren Faire in McDade, Texas. Upon arrival, a group of characters were handing out flyers to gain attention for their show, which happened to be called Blunt Force Drama. Once we Jack and I finally made it through the festival gates, Blunt Force was of the first shows running. So of course, we stopped there. The show is a melee fighting tournament mixed with adult humor. The show starts by picking judges from the crowd and then the fighting begins. They even have adult humor commercials while you wait for the next round. I thoroughly enjoyed the fighting and the humor, but some might find it offensive (it was pretty racy). Also, I wouldn't take kids. Once the show finished, we followed Jack's policy of taking a lap around the grounds to see what shops and shows are available.
